Bill Curran failed to correct any of the problems in weight rooms
Why has Bill Curran failed to correct any of the problems in weight room? Do FCPS officials, not care about student safety? ——————————————————————————————————————————- I am writing you today so that you become aware of a serious problem you may have in your middle schools and high schools weight rooms. I believe that students may be at serious risk. I would like to know the answers to the following questions. You may also want to know the answers in order to see where the problems are and protect your students.
1. Are all students able to use the weight room equipment?
2. Are students of all ages able to use the weight room equipment?
3. Are weight rooms open 24/7?
4. Are the weight rooms supervised during all hours that it is open to the students?
5. Are those who provide supervision in the weight rooms: A. Certified weight lifting instructors? B. Are they able to provide proper instruction on how to lift weights? C. Do they know the different forms of weight lifting, power lifting, body building, conditioning, etc. D. Are those who supervise trained in first aid?
6. Do you have records of on site supervision?
7. Does FCPS require parents permission before their child is allowed to lift?
8. Does FCPS keep attendance of those who use the weight lifting room?
9. Does FCPS have lifting programs for students that are sport specific and is the person who is supervising the lifting have knowledge of sport specific drills?
10. Are these sport specific instructions given to students and parents?
11. Is it true that some students like to hang out in the weight rooms to socialize?
12. Is it true that some students sneak into the rooms and mis- use equipment showing off to their friends? Where is the supervision and controls of the room?
13. Do you know what the 1000 pound club is?
14. Do you know that you have FCPS officials and coaches certifying that students can lift a total of 1000 pounds using three different lifts in a row?
15. Does FCPS know how many students are injured doing weight training in schools? We need to protect all students in order to reduce risks of injuries.
