I really feel like we are spinning our wheels here and something needs to change in order for us to make the positive changes necessary in the FCPS athletic programs. I know you were away for several weeks, but the answers that were provided after a month’s review by your office, are woefully inadequate, and frankly unprofessional. (Read the article)

These are some of the pending issues that remain.

What are the consequences for the coaches who continue to promote their businesses/camps with their students?

What are the consequences for coaches who continue to advertise their businesses on FCPS website?

Given the numerous violations, has FCPS looked into the football team camps to see if the teams are attending camps staffed by their own coaches who are being paid? Why is Oakton going to a team camp staffed by their coaches?

What about the community use application we asked for 3 weeks ago for The Elite Quarterback Camp that was held at Oakton HS and run by their head coach and assistant AD?

Why have you not answered our questions about FCA attending team practices by invitation from coaches? Isn’t this a violation of FCPS policy that requires these to be student initiated and voluntary?

Did FCPS check to see if Gjormand’s private business, GVSC, was being promoted in the office at Madison HS as indicated on the website (brochures available in the office). Did FCPS tell him that he is not permitted to do this? What are the consequences?

In the brochure for Champions Football Camp, it was listed as a “Rising 9th Grade camp” and was to be staffed with the Oakton football coaches. Paul you claimed a booster used the name and that the staff would not be working at the camp. How would a booster have access to a private business’s brochure? Why were the coaches listed? Did the kids/parents sign-up for this camp expecting it be staffed by the Oakton HS coaches? Who did run the camp? Was it disclosed to the parents that the coaches would not be there?

FISS wants disclosures on any “team camps” for all sports. Any camp that a FCPS coach promotes/organizes, we want written disclosure on dates, location, sponsors, and whether anyone from the coaching staff is being paid. We feel there are dozens of violations going on.

DISCLOSURE, OVERSIGHT and CONSEQUENCES are seriously lacking in FCPS.
